About The Couch

The Couch?  What kind of place calls itself The Couch?  The kind of place that has the best counselors and resources for you! But what really sets us apart is our drive for comfortability. Not every couch is comfortable, and not every counselor is a good fit for everyone.  At The Couch, you can relax, because our counselors and our couches, (or loveseats) are comfortable and will provide you with a safe, comfy cozy, reliable, fun, and trustworthy atmosphere.  Give us a call and see if we're the kind of place that you'll be comfortable in.

STOP SEARCHING……Are you bleary-eyed from reading so many counselor profiles? Are the words just combining to read blah, blah, blah? So, you’re looking for a therapist, good news, I’m looking to help people! My name is Derreka Walton, and I own and operate The Couch Counseling Center. Am I some super magical being with special unicorn counseling abilities? NO! I’m a pretty regular person with some skills! I’m married, have kids, a few pets, a job, and a life, pretty normal, right?

My skills enable me to help people with a wide range of concerns, from relationships to anxiety to depression to anger, and more. Hurting? Stuck? Not even sure what is going on? I don't know what is going on sometimes too. I am not going to sit here and guarantee we can work through the stuff you are concerned with. Besides, you might be standing.

EVERYONE is different, and every problem is different! Have you ever tried on shoes? Of course, you have. The thing about shoes and counselors is they don’t fit everyone the same. I, and The Couch Counseling Center, think we could be a great fit, but if we’re not we can help you find someone who is.

A wise woman once told me "KATE (insert her Russian accent here): if you want to FEEL something different, you have to DO something different. Maybe go for a walk, smell a rose, see a cute squirrel or something!".  Although it sounds a little silly, she wasn't wrong. Sometimes you've gotta get out there and shake it up a bit. Doing that is not always easy or comfortable - especially when looking to start with a new therapist. At The Couch, we get that - and hope to put your mind at ease by providing a comfortable and supportive environment (sorry, we don't have squirrels).

I work with individuals aged 12+, and specialize in trauma/complex trauma; eating concerns or eating disorders; some personality disorders; body image and self-esteem issues; and teens/young adults. I also work with people for mood disorders, anxiety, and just the stresses of life!

On the personal side, I enjoy attempting to keep plants alive; hip hop concerts; kayaking; napping; tattoos; reading academic journals, and spending time with my 5 year old kiddo. I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lakeland University and a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Metropolitan State University of Denver.

I look forward to working with you, no matter where you are on your journey towards healing, self-discovery, or change.

Counseling stinks, I tried it and didn’t think it was for me.  Sound familiar? Those were my thoughts about counseling and I am wondering if you have ever felt that way? If I was offered the choice of seeing a counselor or assembling IKEA furniture with winter mittens, I would have redecorated my entire house in unpronounceable Swedish accouterments.  Shunning the counseling establishment didn’t ease the sense of unhappiness I had, so I gave the system another go.  This time I found a counselor that didn’t stink, a counselor that was able to see me for who I am and gave me a sense of hope I hadn’t found otherwise.  And that’s why I became a counselor.

My name is Lisa, and I want to help you by working together as a team.  I believe a team is non-judgmental, supportive, and focused on moving towards the same goals.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh bestowed on me, by virtue of my studious and hard work, a degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.  Using this degree I became a Licensed Professional Counselor, and have experience working with a diverse range of people and concerns, including depression and anxiety.

When I’m not doing the counseling, I enjoy spending time with my family and doing cool things like rock collecting and crocheting (not necessarily at the same time).

Hello! My name is Dedra. I'm a therapist, which means that I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I currently have a training license from the State of Wisconsin. Now that we've established that I'm qualified, let's see if you think we'd make a good fit to get your mental health to a better place.

Here's some things about me: I am a mom - both human and dog. a wife, and a veteran. I enjoy traveling, being outside when there's sunshine, and reading. While these may not apply to you, that's okay! I've worked with many people with a wide variety of traits, beliefs, backgrounds, and mental health concerns.

Whether you're battling depression or anxiety, navigating stormy relationships, or simply seeking peace in a chaotic world, I am here to guide you toward brighter days ahead.
